In order to understand the community’s wants and needs, I talked with them firsthand and worked with them in co-design sessions. This enabled me to understand their perspective and dig deeper to look beyond their words.
I worked with a group of Architecture, Policy, and Design students and faculty to research and redevelop unused storage garages in Friendship, Pittsburgh. We examined what the people in the neighborhood wanted and needed through several community outreach events. We then designed a future for this space that would fulfill those needs while remaining adaptable for the future. I aided in researching similar projects, analyzing the research from the public, and designing how the space will be utilized in the future. The project is currently raising the funds to make our design a reality.
